Video games have expanded the canvas upon which stories are told.
When judging a game's merit most critics will focus on a game's "look", gameplay and/or mechanics, but when the discussion changes where a game ranks among the all-time greats - the focus moves to the characters, the world and how the story intertwines with the game play. Whether it Mario saving Peach from Bowser, or Joel and Ellie trying to escape the Zombie Apocalypse - people need stories.
